Experience report A couple of months ago, I had to get some teeth removed. I went in under the assumption that I would be sedated with nitrous and was planning on treating it as a recreational experience. After I arrived and lay down, the dentist walked in, placed two pills under my tongue, and said he’d be back in 45 minutes.
During those 45 minutes, I started to feel slower and warm (I have no other way to describe it). When the dentist came back, he gave me another two pills and left again. This time, I started to feel happier, more euphoric, and calm.
When the dentist returned again, he began the surgery. My mouth was numbed, and then—blank. I remember nothing else. The next thing I knew, I was home, sleeping on the couch.
Now, as I try to recall what happened during that blackout, it feels off, like the memories aren’t really mine. I’ve only felt like this once before, after trying to remember what happened following a concussion. It’s a very disturbing feeling.
The experience itself was great—pure bliss—even though it was for surgery. But trying to remember it feels wrong.
