Auditory effects last way longer than stated in the box
Your auditory input can be distorted for >24 hours. This has already been pointed out by another user (Dextromethorphan) in 2019 and again by me last year: SubstanceBox/DiPT (see history). The change is not accepted yet in the box, so I am stating it here. I think the long duration is pretty essential important to know if you are taking DiPT for the first time and consulting this page for duration. (The Wikipedia page on DiPT also only lists 8-10 hours.) I am not sure whether it should be listed as 'Offset' or 'After effect', I think this is open to discussion, but having the long duration somewhere in the box at all is important, imo!
Admittedly, I was this person last year and I was not quite prepared to not be able to hear properly for almost two days! When you consult Bluelight or Erowid, several people report the auditory effects lasting over 20 hours:
- "T+16:00 - I got up and notice that my ears are still ringing slightly, but the intensity of this is maybe 5-10% of what I had during the trip. The sounds are still distorted, but it is very subtle and noticeable especially with sounds that I know very well (e.g. phone ringtone, windows error sound)." Bluelight trip report
- "When the compound was ingested orally the audio hallucinations lasted for about twenty-four hours, really got old after a while." Bluelight experience #1
- "Slight deepening of sounds was still noticeable 24hours later with only 20mgs." Bluelight experience #2
- "Does anyone else find, that, even lower end doses, seem to cause a very strong audio distortion, without much of a psychedelic effect, but the audio distortion lasts over 24 hours? sometimes two days? (gradually fading)" Bluelight experience #3
- "(...) audio affects lasted untill the other day (around 16-18 hours after swallowing the dipt)" Bluelight experience #4
- "I awoke the next day (...) and noticed that as of about 20 hours since i took the DIPT, voices still sound fairly distorted, as does my own." Erowid report #1
- "I woke up the next day with pretty intense residual effects, lasting until T + 24hrs." Erowid report #2
- "Much too my surprise, I awoke 6 hours later with about 3/4 the full effects. Noticable deepening of pitch lasted until at least 21 hours after ingestion." Erowid report #3
So, to anyone reading this: be warned!
- If you add a source, I'll approve it -Larnaca (talk) 23:28, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- I have added some links to specific reports that mention long-lasting auditory effects. (The source for the 8-10 duration on Wikipedia is simply the TiKHAL entry, so I hope a list of first-hand experiences by over the years by different users also constitutes as an adequate source -- there are few scientific articles on DiPT and so far I have found none that list duration/half-life) Dutchmonster (talk) 17:43, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
- That's nice, and I do appreciate your work, but what I'm suggesting is to add them as references inside of the edited text, like so:
- 24[1]
- (You can use this one as a template, click "edit source" to see how to write the markdown, if you need any help lmk)
- Otherwise, it becomes harder to review edits. It is much easier this way, and also makes it easier for others in the future to see why a given source was added (and if, for example, it might be changed or if there already are sources claiming it goes in some way).
- Thanks. Larnaca (talk) 18:31, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
